Pharmacy tech job

So I’ve been working as a pharmacy technician for 4 years now and I’m switching to a different company for higher pay, more hours, and more benefits. When I got the call from the new company, he didn’t specifically say “you’re hired” but he told me that I would be a great fit and that he would be calling me in a few days to start the background check and initiate the hiring process. He then told me I could start as early as 2 weeks from then. I told him that was perfect and that I would be looking forward to hearing from him again.

That was almost 3 weeks ago. I put my 2 weeks in at my old job and now that’s over so I no longer work there. I have yet to get a call back from the new company. I’ve tried calling from the number he originally called me at, and I get the receptionist who tells me that he’s not currently available and I left my name and number with her. That was 6 days ago.

I’m getting worried that I left my old job for this new one that seems to be unorganized or maybe he just forgot about me? Maybe it’s just anxiety or nerves talking, but I’m really excited for this new opportunity and I’m worried that I did something wrong by leaving my old job.

I feel like I have no other option but to keep waiting to see if he will call me since I already left my old job. I’m thinking of continuing my search for a new company instead. When I originally got hired at my old job, it was so quick. I mean from the initial interview to my first day was probably a week.

When I talk to my husband about it he tells me that it’s probably just my nerves and that maybe he just has a lot of stuff to do right now but he will get back to me when he has the time. I just don’t want to wait around for a job I’m not even sure I 100% have yet.
