He said he likes but he doesn’t want to get attached to me

He likes me and I like him back. We both expressed our mutual interest and agreed to get to know eachother as a person. We haven’t been intimate yet (sex) but he did ask if I wanted to…

We’ve been talking for 2 months now with no sex and I said yes. He told me he isn’t seeing anyone else and neither am I.

But sometimes he makes comments like “I’m getting too attached to you and this isn’t good”

Or if he face times me sometimes I’m in the dark in my room and he tells me “let me look at your pretty face I miss it”

Sometimes he has a bad day because he didn’t get to see me…. Literally he gets upset and gloomy if he didn’t get to see me.

When he’s getting closer emotionally he says these things that he needs to back away a little

I mean shouldn’t we both get excited about eachother and get closer and closer instead of fearing attachment. He is always talking to me but not sure how to interpret this
