Experiences with Copper IUD ???

I’m thinking of trying a nonhormonal birth control, the copper IUD. What are your experiences with it? The good & bad.. I haven’t heard much about it.

I bled heavier and longer for a year (it’s normal), but other than that, I have no complaints.

I’m coming up on 4 years with a copper iud. I will never go back to hormonal birth control again! The first few months (maybe 6) I had a heavier, more painful period than normal. Sex was a little painful too but everything has settled down. 
The worst part for me (in Australia) was first having to get a referral from my general doctor to the gynaecologist who then gave me a script that I had to go fill before he scheduled for it to be inserted. Apparently even for doctors (& the pharmacy who had to order it in) it is not a normal method & I was constantly asked if I was sure I wanted this particular birth control 🤦🏼‍♀️. For some reason they tried pushing the hormonal iud or implant or shot and me asking for copper was, against the grain, I guess!

I had no side effects or anything. Normal periods still, it was a quick and easy process, I ended up having it removed when we decided to try for number two, removal wasn’t bad either
