My fiancé wants to take my name…

I 25F at engaged to the most wonderful man (27). We are getting married in September and I play for a softball team that plays into September. I asked him if it would be weird if I got a jersey with his last name since we’re getting married. He mentioned how a while ago he mentioned wanting to take my last name.

For context, my fiancé has a horrible relationship with both his parents. His mom is an awful woman who makes everything about herself. She had two kids with her husband, divorced him, then had twins (my fiancé) with another man. But she had the twins keep the last name of the man she divorced so she would have the same last name as all her kids.

Now that we’re talking about changing names, he wants to take my last name because he feels my family is more of a family to him. His last name means nothing to him and he wants the last name of a family he cares about.

I’ve always dreamed of the day I can take my husbands last name. I’m not super traditional and don’t care about gender stereotypes but that was one thing I was excited about. But I also understand his side of it. My family is amazing.

I guess my question is, would it be weird for us to take my name?
