Opinion on circumcision

I’m due next month and i’m having a boy. I am not filing my birthing plan and i have to let them know if i’m planning on having him circumcised at the hospital. I’m not really sure of what i should do I read the pros of circumcising your child but i just really don’t want to put my baby thru this pain especially as he just enters this world. I guess i’m just looking for experience of moms that have or have not made the decision to circumcise their son and why.

Fundamentally I don't believe in amputating a perfectly healthy body part, even more so when it's for aesthetic purposes and the baby can't consent. Add to that the physical pain/trauma and separation from the mother in that first day or two of life has a permanent lasting effect on the baby's nervous system. No thanks.

Neither of my boys are circumcised, they're 1 and 4. Never had a problem. We didn't feel comfortable doing a cosmetic procedure on our babies

Nobody in my family is and neither is my husband, nobody has ever had any issues, even my disabled father who wears diapers, he has some UTIs one in a while but not enough that I would ever put my baby through that pain to prevent them. Women are more prone to UTIs anyway. Also, in Europe the circumcision rates are so low, and the US still has a much higher rate of STDs vs the US. So for me it’s a no brained, our son due this September will not be circumcised, we will teach him proper cleanliness as he grows!

If I could go back I wouldn't have done it.

I would do it because young boys aren’t the cleanest and I’ve know some to get lots of utis because of it. Better to do it now and have him endure a little bit of pain to avoid a lot in the future.
