Was my husband wrong for telling a nosy woman off?

Jess

My husband went out to spend some time with our 5 month old daughter on the weekend. At one point, he went to the mall for lunch and this woman in her 50s or 60s came up to him and was asking the usual questions and making conversation. Then she started asking how many kids he had and he said, "Only one."

She started into, "Oh you need to have more. You can't leave a child alone in the world!" And all that. He very politely said that he was happy with one but she kept pushing and pushing about it. Eventually he said it was nice talking with her but his lunch was getting cold. She didn't stop! She kept telling him how children need a sibling! Like.... Take a hint lady!

Eventually he said, "I really don't know how else to tell you to mind your business. I'm just trying to eat my damn lunch in peace."

She then went on again about how if he had a second, the second could look after the first so that he'd get some peace 😂

So he said, "My wife died giving birth to my only daughter. I'm just trying to eat my damn lunch but you're here sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. Have a nice day." She finally left him alone.

He ended up leaving the mall after he finished his food. Why do complete strangers think interactions like this are appropriate? If someone politely shuts you down, take a hint! Also... Can we stop pressuring people to have more than one kid?
