Bloody show or normal after a cervical check?

Had on and off contractions since Monday, and had a cervical check today and I'm almost 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced.  could this mean labor is coming soon? Is this normal? Should I go get checked? This is very different from my first, my water broke at 37 weeks exactly with my first and I had him 12 hours later.
