Tips to help toddler with speech delay?
My son will be 2 in August and I just wanted to see if anyone had any tips to help him talk. He doesn’t say any words. We have a speech therapist that comes out once a week and works with him and gives us weekly assignments like playing in front of a mirror or repeating words.
He only knows two baby signs, more and eat, but he uses more for everything including when he’s done eating. I sing and talk to him as much as I can. I don’t feel the therapy is helping much but they can’t do more than once a week.
I was looking into making a communication board with pictures of things he wants, so he could bring me a picture off the board and I’ll get him that thing. But his speech therapist doesn’t think it will help him and she said it might delay his talking even further. She also wasn’t okay with me teaching him baby signs until I told her we needed some way to communicate.
He does bring us snacks or his juice sippy cup when he wants them. I don’t know many people with children around his age, his closest cousin is 7 but we don’t see him often. I am just getting a little down because I feel like I’m trying to get him to talk and we aren’t making any progress. He’s had speech therapy for 5 months now as well.
Any tips or ideas that might help us would be so appreciated.
