Hi everyone! My husband and I are considering baby girl names currently, and have run into a bit of a dilemma. When we announced the name we like for a girl, our friends immediately said that they wanted the name too, as well as another couple we are friends with.

None of the friends are pregnant at the moment. Would you ignore their claims or try for a new name? We're not even sure it's a girl yet, I just hoped for some input about what others would do in this situation.

I named my daughter Zoey Elizabeth, Elizabeth being my best friend's middle name. We knew Elizabeth would be part of her name but until she was born, we had not decided...anyway, my mother's niece flipped out saying "You can't use Elizabeth. If I ever have a girl, I'm naming her Piper Elizabeth. You knew that." I looked her dead in the face told her "Well you ain't pregnant and I am. Seeing as I am naming MY daughter after MY best friend, you're either shut outta luck or you can name your future daughter what you want and they have the same middle name." My point is, if you have a name you love, don't let anyone discourage you. :)

Name your baby what you want! If names were only used one time there wouldn't be so many Jennifer's, Samantha's, and Amanda's in the world.

I had a friend who named a baby she lost River and I texted her before I found out and told her out of the kindness of my heart if it's a boy he will be named River. She said its fine and she can't tell me what to name my baby. It turned out to be boy and I get a message the day I announced that she was heartbroken and I hope she understood why she was backing away from our friendship. Well I apologized and didn't change his name. Lost him at 20 weeks and guess who messaged me.......

A name is a name. You don't put dibs on it or trademark a name.
