Question about breastfeeding?

Can you pump completely? Like can you pump only and not have your baby use your nipple at all? Will they still get pretty much all the same benifits?  I want my son to get my breast milk but to be completely dependent on the bottle for multiple reasons. And I'm worried I can't even breastfeed - my breast haven't changed that much and I have had no signs of leakage at 36 weeks. I know it's something to ask my dr but just wanted to see if anyone else has done this.

You milk won't come in until after the baby is born. I'm having my third baby and I never leaked during pregnancy. I BF and pumped for both for a year each. Leaking has nothing to do with milk supply.

Exclusively pumping can work for some woman. It's a huge amount of work. I don't respond and produce for a pump like I do for the baby, so it wouldn't work for me. Some Moms do well with it. The benefits of breast milk will still get to your baby.

Don't let others shame you for your choices! Of course you can exclusively pump! Look in to it more, of course, but I can't see why not!

I pumped exclusively for three months. It can be done, however it's much more difficult. You are either pumping or feeding or washing bottles. It's a never ending cycle! Very exhausting. Prepare yourself! Lol

It's a lot easier if you can have baby do the sucking. But it is possible to pump exclusively and it gives almost all the benefits. When babies nurse from the breast they trade germs with mom and mom's immune system tags those germs with a little tag that tells baby's immune system how to kill them once they drink milk the next time and that doesn't happen when they drink from a bottle. Talk to a lactation consultant! Very few people are physically unable to produce enough milk, and even a little milk is worth it.

You milk will not come in unlit a day or two after baby is born. And you can pump however it depends on your body. With my first she couldn't latch right so I pumped and after 3 months I was completely dried up. Best of luck

My best friend exclusively pumps because her daughter never latched. She had struggled, but has a system down now that works pretty well for her, but she wanted to breastfeed, so she still tries daily to get her daughter to latch to see if it ca eventually work out. It had been a long road for her the past five months, but she hopes to be able to keep pumping for a full year as long as her supply is still there. Plus she pumps more than her daughter eats in a day, so she has a freezer reserve.

Also do the technique after a hot bath with some lotion or oil. Relaxation is key and helps stimulate letdown

Why would you want to pass up on the complete bliss of nursing? And I'm sure your breasts will be able to nurse. Google 'Stanford university Jane Morton breast' She has a video on her site. Watch it. And begin practicing the hand massage technique now. I'm 25 weeks and my breast are full of colostrum to the point I can begin storing it now if I wanted to.

It's possible but a lot of work. I have a friend that does just that.
