Cloth Diapers

Question

I am looking into using cloth diapers with this baby. I am looking for recommendations on brands of cloth diapers, types, and your go to cleaning routine. This would be my first time using cloth diapers.

We’ve cloth diapered our first for 2 years and we’re planning to cloth diaper with our second coming this fall! 
Washing is easy, especially while baby is EBF. Using an UNSCENTED detergent do a quick cold wash (cold prevents stains from setting in) followed by a “regular wash” + extra rinse (warm wash, cold rinse, extra rinse insures all detergent is removed). I like Rockin’ Green brand cloth diaper detergent. They also have an ammonia bouncer for if they get a bit stinky from hard water, etc. And wash them every other day or so. Don’t wash HOT or machine dry the covers, it can delaminate the water proof barrier from the outer fabric, hang them to dry. 
I personally like the pocket style diapers. And I swear by the disposable / biodegradable flushable liners (made of bamboo). I didn’t use these while baby was EBF, but did after starting solids and I think they’re what has kept us in the cloth diaper game. Diaper inserts made of hemp or bamboo are most absorbent, the microfiber ones are fine but don’t hold quite as much. Though when baby got bigger and peed more I double stuffed diapers with a microfiber closest to baby and a natural fiber under it. 
We have a diaper sprayer attached to the toilet and a splatter guard in case of a messy poo that misses the liner. 
Search Facebook marketplace or Craigslist for used cloth diapers to save money, but check that the elastic is still in good shape and the waterproof layer is still well attached to the outer layer of fabric. 
We do use disposables overnight since they hold more pee and keep baby’s skin more dry. 
Don’t use conventional diaper creams with cloth diapers, they stain them. We use coconut oil, it works well. In the rare case our child has had a rash and we really feel like diaper cream is necessary we will use disposables until they’re healed. 
We have spent less than $500 on both cloth and disposables in the 2 years we’ve been cloth diapering. Plus you’re putting fewer chemicals on your babies skin and keeping plastic diapers out of the landfill! It’s so worth it.

Alva baby is really good and they have a great price point. I suggest using the thirsties brand hemp, microfiber and bamboo inserts with them.
