Is this how all baptisms are, or was this weird?

I was at a baptism last weekend and in front of a crowd of 60+ people, the baby was completely undressed, covered in olive oil, and then submerged in a giant pot of water 3 times. Sometimes they dunk the baby head first but this time it was feet first. The baby was hysterically crying the whole time. Then there was another ritual of carrying the baby around the alter 3 times, baby was still hysterical. Jewelry was put on the baby, still crying. There was a professional photographer for the event and after party and the pictures were posted online (I guess it’s a private gallery but the link has been shared to over a dozen people), some of the priest holding this sobbing, naked baby over his head. And they used a different name during the whole ceremony. My husband and I were shocked at this bc we’ve never been to this kind of baptism before. The parents are not religious, but their parents (so the baby’s grandparents) are. I completely support baptisms and religious events but not at the baby’s suffering. And it seemed like a big photo-op for the parents. Am I just a wet blanket or is this too much?
