Is the name Madison too “basic” or common?

Does anyone else think the name Madison is a little basic and too common? I personally like more uncommon names, obviously not names that are unheard of but as someone with a VERY very common name I don’t like popular names and wanted to name my daughter something more unique. My bf however hates unique names, he thinks they’re all stupid and says no name is actually unique. He hated all the names I picked and the only one we have agreed on so far has been Madison so that’s what we have settled on. I like the name and think it’s pretty but I just don’t feel “satisfied” with it idk. I just don’t want to name her that only because we couldn’t agree on a better name you know?🥲 I don’t hate it but I don’t absolutely love it either. What do you think?

I’m with your bf on this. I’m not a fan of “unique” names. I feel like many people who choose these names are forgetting that while that name sounds cute for a baby, that baby is going to spend 80% of their life as an adult. I always think about what that name would look like on a business card or how it sounds introducing themselves at a business meeting.

My name is Madison. I was born in the 90s when the name was just starting to get traction as a girl name. So it wasn't in the top 10 for my generation. But I love my name. I went by the nicknames Madi, Mads, or Madster.
My sister's name was Maybree and was incredibly unique. 
There were times I was jealous she had a "cool" name and there were times I was glad people recognized my name. She would have to repeat herself a lot sometimes. 
There is good and bad to every name. Just find one you both like. Madison is a great choice though. 🤩

Depending on how much times you have until baby is here, keep looking at names in case something better that you both agree on pops up. Maybe you could give her a super unique middle name instead and that might help you love the name more? Plus that's a good compromise for you and your bf, Madison as a first name and a unique name you love as a middle name. I'm not a fan of super crazy unique names and my girls are Katelyn and Madelyn. Though I did want to use the name Madison but we couldn't. And we use family names for middle names so I guess we're more basic lol. I'd say keep Madison for now, but keep looking if you can. You never know what name might click for both of you. Or wait until she's here to name her too. And then choose a unique middle name so you get that satisfied feeling of a unique name

If you really aren’t satisfied with Madison, then don’t name her that. Make a list, wait to see her face and then decide. If she looks like a Madison, go for it, but don’t settle for a name you aren’t 100% sold on.

As a teacher, I see this name a lot. I had two Madison’s in my class last year, but there were many others in the same grade in other teachers’ classes. Very common but still cute.

I'm with your boyfriend. I honestly hate unique names. I usually think they're just ugly and weird. I'm more of classic, elegant, been around for many generations type of name person. Things that have been around for a LONG time. I think Madison is rrally pretty and it's a name that can have nicknames and grow with baby. I've only ever met one Madison and I went to 3 different elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 2 high schools (my graduating class was 1,200), and 2 colleges. The insane amount of classmates I've had and I've only ever met one Madison.
