How to get ready for your next dye job

Chelsey

A few things I wish I knew sooner about prepping for my hair appointment.

I used to do myself no favors by arriving at my hair appointment with dirty day 3 hair and not preparing my hair for the stress of bleach, color processing, and heat. Not to mention the money I was literally throwing away by not doing these things 😱🤯

1. Overnight Oil Treatments on my scalp the night before an appointment. Doing this before a dye job can help repair damage, balance the scalp, lock in moisture, create a barrier to help shield the hair from potentially damaging effects of hair dye, help distribute the dye more evenly for a vibrant and consistent color, reduce scalp irritation from dye, and help promote longer lasting color!

Wow! That’s a whole lot of benefits! Don’t skip this step and then pay good money for a color treatment or you aren’t getting the best value for your hair.

2. Don’t go with dirty hair! Look I know part I’d the dye process is washing your hair so it may seem silky to go with clean hair, but here’s why you want to:

Washing your hair before applying hair dye helps remove any dirt, oil, or product buildup, which can interfere with the dye's ability to penetrate the hair evenly. However, it's essential not to wash your hair immediately before dyeing it; it's best to wash it a day or so before to allow some natural oils to return to your scalp. This can help protect your scalp and hair from potential irritation or damage caused by the chemicals in hair dye.

3. It’s great to bring a picture to show your hairstylist, just make sure you have realistic expectations for achieving them:) If your hair is super dark it may be a few appointment commitment to get the lightest shade you are wanting, if your face holds a different shape your cut may not mirror the models style. Have fun looking for your next style and working with your stylist to achieve it!

Lastly, remember to use a hydrating shampoo and cold water after a color to seal the cuticle which will help your color last longer! Try not to wash your hair for at least a few days after a color even if you’re a regular daily washer.

You spend good money at the salon, avoid these mistakes to love your hair!🌱
