How to deal with hand me downs?

I am about 5 weeks in according to this app, the pregnancy was a surprise but i have gradually came to terms with it, on the other hand my husband is elated. So the issue right now is that my husband's sister wants to give us their hand me downs of clothes (unisex colors) and equipments, and prams etc (their babies are already big girls now) but after talking with my husband we decided that its our first and probably our last baby, so we want everything to be new. From clothes to equipments, prams, toys and whatnot. But we are having an issue of how to reject her without getting a nagging? If you went through this can you suggest how to reject someone's goodwill?

After being in your SILs position (saved alot of barely used items and gave it to my brother.and wife) i would advise you to accept whatever they want to give and just give it to someone else if you dont want to use it for whatever reason. It really hurt knowing they didn't want to use what i saved, and then either bought pretty much the exact same item themselves or complained because its expensive or hard to find in stores.

Just say “thank you for the offer, but we have everything we need.” I’ve never accepted second hand items and my son gets everything brand new. It’s a preference and it’s ok to have a preference. Not everyone wants second hand items and that’s perfectly fine.

But honestly be open minded, as a first time parent you haven't used some of this stuff before you may not like your own selections and may wish you took some of it. I was convinced I wanted a specific bassinet but ended up loving the one I was gifted.

Baby clothes and supplies are very expensive. I ended up getting my cousin some 2nd hand clothes and books from the thrift store for her baby (of course examining everything and washing when I got home) Like the other person mentioned, because baby’s grow super fast, the clothes you find used are maybe worn like 3x especially for newborn clothing. Now for bottles and other stuff yes I would buy new, but clothing wise, nothing wrong with maybe taking some, besides it’s free and I think it’s very kind of her to do for you.

I would just explain you want the experience of looking and buying everything yourselves for your first baby but thank you for the offer maybe they can go to someone else more in need. 
There’s nothing wrong with wanting new stuff that you’ve picked especially if you have a certain taste or theme in mind. 
Me and my husband personally don’t do anything second hand, that’s just our preference so deffo wouldn’t for my baby. 
But don’t see anything wrong with it and will offer my stuff to others and take no offence if they don’t want it.

Say thank you and then say we have everything we need. Honestly it might be worth looking at some of the clothing, we tend to buy good quality clothes that can be passed down. Babies grow  so fast you end up having clothes they haven’t even warn.

Just say something along the lines of “no it’s ok! We already bought a bunch of things, thank you though!” Suggest to her to donate it or give it to someone else. If she insists, just take it and then donate it or throw it out yourself. Or have your husband just be honest and explain to her that you guys appreciate it but that you guys want everything to be new.
