When do they do the first ultrasound?

Question

I believe that I'm coming up on 8 weeks. I have a appointment with a nurse to go over family history and finances. But when will be my actual ultrasound? And when is it safe to tell the world? I want to be in the clear before announcing. Obviously close family and my husband know.

I was 9w3d at my first ultrasound but i measured 8w6d... Im sure they can do it around 8wks and get an accurate measurement that early

Thanks ladies!! So they won't know how far along I am until the ultrasound, correct? I just find it silly that I could be farther along and won't even know it till my first ultrasound.

It depends on the dr. With my first I had one at 6+2 for dating since I hadn't had a period for four months before that. This time I will have one at 8 weeks to confirm pregnancy (they don't do Hcg levels). Some Drs wait until 10 to 12 weeks.

On so jealous of people getting those early ultrasounds lol I had bloodworm done at 8 weeks (and I found out before 6 weeks) then at 10 I heard the heartbeat and had a pap and I'll be 13+1 on Wednesday when I go for my first ultrasound!! I told the world already..when I was about 9 weeks..but I got flack for that..I personally think though, that's up to you and your significant other, as to when you want to announce

I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks,Turns out I was actually 8 weeks tho 😊 and its really up to you when you announce your pregnancy but the chance of miscarriage dramatically drops after 12 weeks which is why it's advised to wait until the second trimester. It's really a personal choice tho some people announce straight away others wait I didn't announce until 17 weeks. Good luck!

To be honest it depends on your doctor. Many won't do it the first one until 10-12 weeks. Also the baby can sometimes be difficult to find prior to this and hard to see with a traditional ultrasound. And I hate to say it how much weight you carry can dictate clarity of the ultrasound (sorry please don't shoot me but it's what I've both read and been told by multiple doctors).  I'm a thinner girl so I have been able to see my baby since ultrasound 1 via just traditional on the stomach. Other friends had to go transvaginal.  I got my first at what I thought was 6  weeks but that's because I was so sick I couldn't keep solids down. Found out I was actually at almost 9 weeks (my periods have never been very consistent so it makes sense we were off). In the end every doctor is different but traditionally my office waits until 12 weeks.
