What stage of your cycle are you able to detect changes in your cervix that indicate pregnancy?

Not long after ovulation/my fertile period I found it was hard and lower, now it is softening/medium and higher but not super high. 3 days till AF due. All BFN but still hopeful. Any thoughts or advice?
