Baby Shower Across the Country

Ashley • Will be meeting our first in August 2015!!!
So there's enough time to plan and prep but I was wondering, when are you supposed to have a baby shower? My entire family is across the country (NYC) and the idea of getting them all over here (AZ) just isn't plausible. It seems like it would be easier for my husband and I to go back there for a bit. But I don't know how far along I'm supposed to be when you have a shower and/or how to get there when I'm that far along. Isn't flying a no go? Thoughts?

We have the same issue. We live in Vegas and our entire family lives in Chicago. My husband thought it would be easier for everyone if we went home to Chicago for a baby shower but I made the point that it would be a huge pain in the ass to bring all the gifts back home with us , I can't fly past the 2nd trimester, plus I want to have my baby shower in Vegas where I live. So after talking to my mom we came up with the idea of having a baby shower after the baby is born ere in Vegas, this way everyone can come to the baby shower and also come to meet the baby (more incentive for family to travel) this way also no one has to travel with gifts, we registered at target and babysRus so if they want to they can pick up their gifts when they get here instead of having to travel with them. Now the larger things like the crib and strolled and car seat which my mom and his dad want to buy, they are going to send us money for us to pick them up, or purchase them online and we can pick them up in our store.

I just threw a long distance shower for my sister in law. 🍼😊🍼 I think it can be whatever you really want. 😊

A few people I know that live out of state have had "welcome to the world" shower. A few months after the baby is born, then baby and fam go back to where all the family is and everyone gets to see the baby. You can still register and get gifts beforehand. I'm considering this option.

I think airlines won't let you fly past 8 months? With a cross-country flight, there is some increased exposure to radiation, to which babies (born or unborn) are more sensitive because they are still developing. It is very minimal though, so I wouldn't worry about it, just be aware. The further along you are, the safer it is for the baby. (I'm an xray tech.)
