How do I tell my parents?

I’m pregnant and trying to wrap my head around it. I’m 26, obtained several degrees (per my parent’s request) and now I’m pregnant. There’s been a horrible stigma with young black girls getting pregnant, which my parents instilled in me using fear. Now that I’ve gotten some accomplishments under my belt, in a committed relationship (not married), I’m still nervous to disappoint them. In fact, I’m extremely anxious about their response. How do I tell my parents? Especially my mom..

Honestly I was afraid to tell my parents every single time. You just rip that bandaid off and tell them. How they react is on them, not you.

Tell them in a way (and a time) that feels most right to you. It is a time that can be full of many emotions - excitement and anxieties - for everyone and this can be normal. I was terrified to tell my family when I got pregnant with my first, I was most afraid to tell my grandma cause I didn't want her to be disappointed in me. What I did was get a cute card and print off some of my ultrasound pictures and put them in there and just wrote a nice message to her with the announcement. And now it's a sweet memory I have of telling her, she was thrilled.
