Signs of Autism ?

I have a 1 year old son who will be 2 in March. He’s not really speaking. He says mama and dada but will kinda stretch it out. It’s not always 2 syllables. He also shows other signs I don’t think it’s severe but I see the signs. My husbands niece has autism and we made our son an appointment to be evaluated but I just want to hear any other mamas out there that suspect their child to have autism and found out they did and how did you cope with it?

This could be a sign of something outside of autism too. Is it just speech that he is behind in? Not trying to say that it isn’t autism but I think it is important to consider other possibilities (hearing troubles or other mental delays are what come to my mind).

I’m autistic, but I was a chatterbox around that age. I was finally diagnosed correctly at 20 years old.

My daughter has autism. She didn't speak at all until she was 4/5 years old not even mum or dad. Doesn't give any eye contact. Has severe sensory issues, and didn't sleep more than 3/4 hours a day. she was barely 2 when she got diagnosed but we had a lot of evidence. No harm in getting him checked out 😊

Also I know every child develops differently. My oldest developed a little slow but eventually caught up and doesn’t have any problems.
