Baby got shots today and has a fever , ER ?

my son is 2 months and got his 2 month shots today. It is now later in the day and he had a temp reading of 99.1 it was initially 99.6 what can I do ? Do I take him to the ER ? Is Tylenol okay to give him? He weighs 11 lbs 15 oz

99.6 is not a fever. Not at all. But yes if he gets a fever (100.4 or higher ) then he needs to be taken to the er.

Symptoms like this can come up after shots. Just keep an eye on baby but he doesn’t actually have a fever now, don’t give meds.

No the ER won’t do anything as that’s not really a fever . I was told 104.0 is what you would take baby to ER for. My girls have had higher temps then 100.4 and my dr were not concerned unless it was 104.00. Don’t give Tylenol without talking to dr first . What you can do to lower his temperature is give him a luke warm bath.

It’s normal for them to run a low grade, it’s just their immune system responding. As worrisome as it can be, it means they’re making antibodies and building immunity! I would avoid the ER. They told me a fever isn’t until 100.4 and not to worry until then. I have always been told a little Tylenol was fine to give after shots, but always ask your pediatrician.
