AITA for cussing out my son's gym teacher?
I went off on my son's gym teacher last week and I'm wondering if I overreacted. Backstory, my son has put on some weight this year. He's always had a "fit" body but he has had a noticable weight gain. All his life he's played sports. Since he was 4. He's been in the basketball team since 6th grade. He's a Junior this year and decided after his sophomore year he wanted to do something different and joined choir his Junior year. Since my son decided not to do basketball anymore he wasn't real exercising. If you're in basketball, football, or cheerleading you have to come in over the summer for practice. He didn't do that this summer. The only thing that changed about him was him not really exercising as much anymore. He still has the same diet and everything. So I'm sure his weight gain came from that. Nevertheless, I had asked at his doctors appointments and his pediatrician isn't worried at all. He's a little overweight but nothing she's concerned about at all. He's still as healthy as can be.
He hurt his foot last weekend and is in a boot so I sent him to gym with a doctor's note and he told me his teacher said "I know your foot is hurt but you really do need this. I can see the difference in you and you're getting fat." He said this in front of everyone and people laughed. He was heartbroken by this and it crushed his self esteem. I confronted the gym teacher and he said he didn't say it to be mean. He's just looking out for him. I asked wtf was wrong with him and kind of lost it on him. I told the principal and he agreed to handle it. Now I feel like I embarrassed my son more. I was just so angry.
