Ignorance
A PSA to all you lovely people on here:
If you're going to have an opinion about something, make sure you are as self-educated as you can be. Use Google. Read EDUCATIONAL articles (not blogs or op-eds) about the subject you want to talk about.
This goes out to those that are especially uneducated about Islam. I am not Muslim, but my boyfriend is. We have been dating for 4 years, and I have been educated (as well as done research for myself) about his sect of Islam. I have done the work to know what I'm talking about, and I will continue to learn throughout my lifetime. Others should do the same, especially when the "facts" you have are completely wrong.
Ignorance is the biggest thing that will hinder our progress as a nation, as a world, as humans. KNOW what you're talking about AND be open to listening when others are correcting you.
I don't normally do rants like this. And I apologize if this is untoward. But it needs to be said. It makes me so extremely sad and disappointed when someone believes something that is based on things that are completely wrong and untrue.
