My nephew is 14 and I've always been extremely close with my sister and her husband and my nephew. My sister got arrested last week because she found out her husband was cheating and LOST it. She pretty much beat the shit out of him in front of their son with a bat. He tried to stop her but she wouldn't stop and she ended up trying to shove the bat in a place that has gotten an SA charge tacked on top of her other charges. She said she just saw red and felt rage and couldn't stop thinking about him with her and wanted to hurt him in every way she could. He was sent to the ICU in critical condition and she was arrested and is facing time for it. My nephew has been staying with me while his dad is in the hospital. He has been refusing to speak to his mom and is just waiting for his dad to get better so he can go back home with him. My sister desperately wants him to speak to her but he wants nothing to do with her. I'm terrified that her husband is gonna keep him from all of us after he gets better. Pretty sure he's gonna divorce her and my sister knows her husband is gonna try to completely take him away. If her son tells the court he doesn't want to see his mom plus all of this she may not see him and we won't. I am not saying what my sister did was right. Especially in front of her son and imo nobody deserves to be beaten with a bat and then violated like that, but I don't want my nephew to completely throw his mom away over this. What can I do?

Edit: I never said what my sister did was right. It wasn't. However it's up to the court of law to decide how she should be punished not me. I know she loves her son and wasn't thinking of the consequences of her actions in the moment.

Edit 2: As I stated what my sister did was wrong. I don't believe she deserves to never see her own kid again because she never harmed my nephew. End of the day both her and her husband were in the wrong. She should have just left him when she found out he cheated and he should have left the relationship instead of CHEATING on her. I understand why my nephew is upset with her completely. I just want him to understand they were BOTH in the wrong. My sister is already going to be punished legally. I just wish he could give her even a tiny amount of grace like he's giving his dad. To at least hear her out
