Beginner makeup recommendations?

Hey! I want to get more into makeup but i’m not sure what to get. I have a few very basic items i bought a few years ago and i really only wear mascara on occasion. I was wondering what some people’s favorite brands or products are because I have no idea where to even start. Also if anyone has any makeup tips and tricks that would be helpful too (i especially struggle with applying eyeliner i can’t figure it out for the life of me). I’m 22 and a little embarrassed that I don’t know how to do makeup and I don’t want to walk outside looking like a child that got into their mother’s makeup lol

oh my god don’t be embarrassed!! makeup is a choice, and it’s an art! my biggest suggestion would be buy products based on what they do for your skin. do you have dry, oily, normal, or combination skin? there’s face products for all of them! but your skin health is so important. proper skin prep > high end makeup products. 
some things wont work for you, and that’s fine! don’t think you’re doing anything wrong because EVERYONE’S makeup has looked a fucking hot mess before. 
i can imagine as you’re getting into it you may want to take it slow, so i’d say start off with easy-to-use products! 
you don’t need all of these but: 
- primer : there’s silicone based & water based primers. silicone & water don’t mix, so look out for that in ingredients! i’d recommend elf power grip/jelly pop. beauty bay also has a great gripping primer! 
- foundation : i’d say a skin tint would be best for just starting out. you can build coverage as needed, and it doesn’t feel heavy on your face :)) i use the catrice serum foundation and loveee it. it oxidises a bit though for me. 
- concealer : i can’t really say much because all the concealers i’ve tried are ass, but go with what you’d get the most use and enjoyment out of! i’ve heard great things about the haus labs/anastasia/nyx stick concealers though :)) 
- contour/bronzer : so you can go with powder or cream versions. contour is typically cooler while bronzer is used to bronze the face! i use cream contour because i have super dry skin, and i love the elf wands as they’re cool enough for me! for bronzer though i use powder to set the contour, i use this nyx hd pallet that ive had since like 2020 but it gets the job done :) it’s also just a preference! 
- blush : again, cream and powder. also not necessary but i think it brings out your natural complexion! if you wanted, you could also be sparse with the foundation if you have naturally rosy/freckly cheeks. i think it’d be beautiful! 
- powder : so there’s setting powder and loose powder. i don’t really know the difference, but it helps set your base so it’s more wearable throughout the day! i use the rimmel pressed setting powder, or just eyeshadow! don’t be afraid of creasing, if happens to literally everyone. 
- mascara : it’s a matter of preference really! i like a more dry mascara because i have super stubborn lashes, i feel like it holds them up more! i love the essence lash princess one. also !! waterproof mascara is the best kind to buy hands down! it’s harder to clean off, but looks beautiful on the eyes. 
- eyeshadow : i cannot for the life of me produce beautiful, colourful looks; so i just use some powder bronzer for dimension. beperfect has wonderful palettes, so does colourpop and beautybay! 
move at a pace you’re comfortable with :)) you’re always going to be beautiful before anything else, makeup is just for fun. don’t let anyone make you feel as though you look better one way or another. drop me a message though if you need more help girlie 🫶

My biggest tip is to visit any Macy's, Dillards and Sephora if you have any available and ask the girlies there to teach you tips and tricks. Also, watch a lot of YouTube videos on makeup. Follow ALLY ART on YouTube to learn all about YOUR face shape and features. She has a series of all the faces and how to identify your features so you can better enhance them.

my tip would be to not use makeup wipes to remove makeup and to use a cleansing/makeup melting balm instead. they keep your face feeling really nice and smooth and help keep you hydrated

Do not be embarrassed!!! I’ve been there. I’m 24, only really started getting into makeup about a year ago. 
When I first started off I bought a lot of drug store products, even dollar store products, to practice with. Some powder, eyeliner, brow pencil, ext. it was easier to spend the money there to practice. I found lots of help on Pinterest and YouTube to learn how to apply. 
Once I got a bit better and didn’t look like an overdone clown I started purchasing other brands lol. Clinique and Elf were pretty affordable. Over the years I’ve just collected eyeshadow palettes from all over. 
Tip: I know lots of sources say start with the dark eyeshadow and blend in. I tried it and it could never work for me. I start in the corner of my eye with my light colors and I blend out to my dark colors. To me, it blend better and looks more natural. Start with having at least three brushes. Set your base or a white color on your skin. Place the lightest color in the corner of your eye and brush it out. Place the second color in the middle, I line up with my pupil and brush both sides. This mixes the first two colors. Then add the darkest color (I go brown to black for this part) and blend out and shape with eyeliner. 
Color combos: 
light blue, royal blue, brown-black 
Blush, dark /brighter pink, brown-black 
*if you don’t have a lighter version of your main color you can always use silver or gold depending on your outfit. If you can mix your main with a white and it helps lighten it up.

I like to use the elf clear brow gel for my eyebrows, the elf lip oil , and the elf hydrating tinted lip balm. Hourglass has good mascara. Also if you don’t mind things being more expensive mac is a good makeup brand. They have makeup for all skin-tones. Elf is also good and it cheap it you can get it at target.

To me, the most important thing is my eyebrows, because I don't have any 🤣 Anastasia Beverly hills has some good eyebrow products. I like to fill them gently with the pencil, run a concealer around them to make the shape stand out, and apply some eyebrow gel. 
For eyeliner, I find the liquid pens the easiest to use. I like to do this when my eyes are open, draw little lines in line with your eyeline and connect them. I'm still learning how to do this, so I'm definitely not an expert lol. You can learn pretty much anything off YouTube though. Practice makes perfect!

you will learn as you go. Take your time and explore tho. I started out with cheap products from drug store (L’oreal, revlon, ELF) and learned that they dont last on my skin and the product go bad quickly (dried out). Dior/Mac foundation/primer is my favorite. Anastasia eyeshadow/eyebrows is sooo pigmented and easy to work with.
