What can I do legally

Question

I have 2 kids and a tiny Yorkie dog. My kids are 2 and 4. My apartment has rules against aggressive breeds. You can't have them so that means no pits. I have neighbors that just moved in above us and they have a pit. I didn't want to confront them so I just went to my office about it and the lady told me "Oh I think it's a service dog." I didn't know pits could be service animals but I'm told if it's a service dog they don't have a choice by law. They are right above me and I don't feel comfortable having my kids outside or my dog because they come out a lot. I'm assuming the "service dog" belongs to the boy but is there ANYTHING legally I could do about this? If not I'll just have to deal but I don't want to be around a dangerous breed

I'd have more if an issue with your glorified rat than the pit pull. Up until my oldest was born I only had aggressive breeds and they were gentle giants. Every single tiny dog I've ever been around has been an aggressive little demon.

As a person who has only had pits as an adult, it’s all about how they’re raised. I can’t speak personally for your neighbors on this. However, since they went through the trouble of being able to legally label the dog as a service dog, I would *personally assume* that they are good people and put in the time and effort to train the dog. Especially if they also plan to have the dog out in public areas where service dogs are allowed as well. Don’t automatically judge one dog bc a group of people have labeled the whole breed. That’s like saying all chihuahuas are nervous, aggressive ankle biters and don’t want to be touched or played with.

not all pit bulls are dangerous. and I’m saying that as someone who has actually been attacked before. as long as they keep the dog on the leash when it’s outside, like you’re supposed to do at most apartments, then there is no issue. there’s fr a lot of Karen’s on here today lmao

Any dog that isn’t trained or well-behaved can be a dangerous dog, including your Yorkie. Just because it’s a pit doesn’t mean it’s automatically aggressive. Literally just don’t interact with it. If it’s a service dog and trained, there’s nothing you can do.
