Am I expecting too much?

Been dating a guy for a month now he’s been great not the best Texter I’m usually okay with that because I prefer voice notes/ phone calls but he only ever texts when it’s time to meet for our dates and briefly when he ask for me to text him when I make it home safe, he’s going out of the country next week to visit his family (he’s not American) am I too clingy for wanting him to at least shoot me a text here and there while he’s going to be away for a month? Am I expecting too much for someone I’m only just begun dating? Should I leave him to be while he’s with family and never bring it up when he gets back? I’m just used to men calling through the courting stage and keeping in contact.
