IUD strings

I got the Mirena IUD back in March but I’ve always had long nails so I’ve put off checking my strings. I’ve felt up there but can’t really tell what I’m feeling, so I’m hoping for some tips.

I can tell the IUD is placed/working because my periods have SIGNIFICANTLY lightened compared to being off birth control, but I just don’t know how to check these damn strings
