Episiotomy vs naturally tearing

My husband and I were having a discussion last night about how he thinks it's a better decision to get the episiotomy (cut between vagina and anus to prevent tearing and help with birth) and I think it's better to tear naturally because some women don't even tear and I hear if you do it heals better if it's natural, plus it's less stitches. We would like other opinions to help make the best decision! Thanks!
