Need advice on moving/maternity leave
So let me start by saying I know the decision is ultimately one only and my husband can make, but I’d appreciate some thoughts or advice from people who have done something similar.
We bought a property near the beach in another state that we planned to rent out, but decided we needed a change and have plans to move there full time this fall. We unexpectedly found out i was pregnant right after we made this decision and are deciding if we should stay where we are or make the move. My husband has wanted to move out of our area for YEARS, and we were finally doing it.
Pros: new environment and we are desperate for a change (my husband is miserable where we live and did not grow up here), much bigger house with more bedrooms, near the beach. We have established childcare for our so.
Huge cons: everywhere in town has a huge wait list for childcare so we don’t have that figured out. I would not have a paid maternity leave if we move. I would have 12 weeks unpaid, vs 18 weeks paid if we stay where we are. This is a difference of about 18k plus obviously 6 more weeks for bonding. I will add I’m very sick of my current job. The new job is however offering a 7500 sign on bonus. I’d be very nervous about going back to work after 12 weeks as I’ve always had 16 or 18 weeks to use.
I’d appreciate any advice!
