Fainting episodes in pregnancy? Vasovagal syncope
I have something called vasovagal syncope that is triggered by either strong pain or anxiety/terror. It doesn’t happen often but I had two scary episodes quite recently. They were trying to remove my IUD and I felt intense terror and pain, told my dr I felt like I was going to faint and then I did. The IUD removal had to be postponed because she told me I started having convulsions/twitches and I had to go to the hospital for IV fluids as my blood pressure was really low. Next time I went to remove it, they had an anesthesiologist that gave me pain management medication (fentanyl) and oxygen. While she was injecting the medicine, she failed to catch my vein so she started wiggling the needle inside my arm and that triggered an episode again, I told her I was about to faint, started feeling cold sweats, lost my vision end eventually fainted for a couple of seconds, though I didn’t convulse this time. She was concerned and waited until I regained consciousness to attempt again. She was successful this time and only then were they able to remove the IUD. This happened in February this year.
Now, I am 15w pregnant and a bit concerned about this condition. This dr told me I will most likely need a C-Section but I went to get a second opinion and all my midwives have told me that it is extremely rare to trigger a vasovagal syncope episode while in labour.
Has anyone had this condition and successfully had a vaginal birth? I would rather have that than a c-section as they scare me quite a bit. Any experiences and advice would be appreciated!
