If you live in a duplex and don't have pets, but the person in the apartment below you has at least a dog and a cat, do you say your home is pet free?

To make a super complicated and very, very long story short, I live in a legal duplex. I'm the upstairs neighbour. I've lived here six months and the previous people did have dogs BUT all carpets have been replaced and the unit was deep cleaned before I moved in with my two year old and my husband. We have no pets and do not smoke. I describe my home as smoke-feee and pet-free.

Our downstairs neighbours do have several pets, including at least one cat and one dog. You can't smell them from our unit but you can hear the cat and dog sometimes.

I recently sold a bunch of kids stuff and said that it came from a pet-free home but I also disclosed that I live in a duplex and the person below me has pets. I said that I don't know what kind beyond the cat and dog.

The last person I sold to ended up demanding that I take a considerable amount of the items because she felt my home was not pet-free. I explained that it was in my ad and if it was a problem, she should have talked with me before we met at the mall. She ended up making such a big deal of it that I told her I was no longer comfortable and I left.

Should I be claiming pet-free, doing what I'm doing, or find out what animals my neighbour has and start saying that my items come from a home with all my neighbours pets?

Edit: thank you everyone. I always felt so weird claiming pet-free but it makes sense.
