Ultrasounds , finding out the gender.... help!

I am currently 16 weeks and 3 days, I have an appointment with my doctor on the 12th of January and I am due June 20th, 2016... Did you have a ultrasound appointment to find out the gender? Or did your doctor tell you with a portable ultrasound? I still haven't even received a picture of my baby and am highly upset about that... please help, just wondering when you were able to see the baby and find out the gender... and if a ultrasound tech is needed for the gender reveal...
