Add diagnosis, told me i can't treat unless I do meds
My 6 year old went in and had a very loose assessment and they suggested ADD. When I spoke to his teachers and staff at school they disagreed with that diagnosis completely. My child doesn't show the typical add characteristics in my opinion. The reason I went to the doctor was because my son is extremely anxious and has random outbursts sometimes where he will have a screaming tantrum for 2 hours straight. We have been to pediatricians, developmental pediatricians, psychiatrist, etc and nobody thinks there's anything wrong other than anxiety that's causing him to become disregulated.
This new psychiatrist is saying that the only thing I can do is give him medication they want to put him on Zoloft and an ADD medication at the same time and she will only continue care with us if I do this because she told me there is no other way to treat this.
I'm currently looking for a second opinion since she's the only one who thinks this and none of his other Drs agree and neither do his teachers.
Is you got this ADD diagnosis for your child did they tell you the only way to treat it was with heavy medication? I don't feel comfortable putting a 6 year old on ssris and they are treating me like I'm anti medication which isn't true but I don't think it's reasonable to start with that on a kid so young especially since I myself am highly sensitive to those types of meds
