How to you “set” a birth date?
Hello
This is my second pregnancy, my first I had an emergency c-section at 35w back in 2022 for my fraternal twin boys. This pregnancy is a singleton girl! While I’m excited and happy we have gotten this far, I’m confused about what to do as far as birth.
I was hoping I could have a VBAC, and my OB informed me at my first appointment if all is good and we don’t get any complications I can.
Thing is he said I would have to deliver at another hospital I’m not familiar with and it would be 1 1/2-2 hours away from home. The hospital I want to have my baby at is local and just a few mins from home. It’s a great hospital and has a NICU and it’s the hospital my twins and I were born. It has emotional meaning.
My aunt fortunately works there as a nurse and has many years in nursing experience, her daughter my cousin is also a nurse there and works the NICU. I’ve asked them what their policy at the hospital is and they don’t allow VBACs due to being too risky. I’m crushed because I want to stay local but I would give up the “dream” to have my baby girl natural. It’s like I really don’t have a choice.
Idk if I’m making any sense, and not sure what I’m looking for with this post, but I guess I would like to know others experiences. I’m a bit heartbroken about having that choice kind of taken from me.
I’ve thought about switching doctors, but when my family told me it’s the hospitals policy I changed my mind. I can’t help but feel robbed of what I wanted.
For those who have had a second C-Section or planned c-section, how do you choose your date? Or does the doctor do it? Closer to due take month I suppose? I will be doing my anatomy scan in the next few weeks, but so far my pregnancy has been remarkable, with no issues and all clear on NIPT.
Please ladies help calm my fears and feelings of being robbed. Thank you if you read this far!
