My Grandpa has Cancer

anonymous

Yesterday, my mom, aunt, and I found out that my grandpa has cancer. They don’t know his prognosis yet, as he still has to get a PETSCAN to know the stages and exact type of cancer (they’re 99% sure it’s tonsil cancer). I’m 21, moved 2,000 miles away from family two years ago to get a better education and job.

Even though we don’t know his prognosis yet, I still feel so much guilt and feel like I should quit and go home to help care for him. He raised (adopted) me at two years old, and he’s my whole world other than my husband and two dogs.

We’re stuck in a lease until October 2025 and not sure what to do - I guess I’m just looking for advice on what to do for now, and what to do if the prognosis is worse than expected.

I have an appointment with my counselor tomorrow after work, but I’m just lost.

Thanks in advance.
