Should I report this to HR?
I got promoted to coordinator at our school sight for school age care. We provide before and after school care and day camp for when school is out, like spring and summer break. I'm friends with a coworker. He was in school to be a teacher but dropped out because of money issues. As a coordinator I am technically his supervisor. My boss came to me and told me that she heard that Anthony, the friend I mentioned, is planning on leaving to be an adjunct teacher at the middle school and heard he put me down as the supervisor reference needs since I'm technically his supervisor. She told me we are extremely understaffed at my sight and that she won't be able to keep sending other staff from different sights to my sight to help out because we are understaffed. I asked why that has to do with me being a reference and she said to think about that before I decide if I'm going to give him a good or bad reference. I said it sounds wrong to give him a bad reference because we are understaffed. She said I don't have to make it so bad that he can never work in teaching. Just make it sound like he's not ready. I will not do that and I did get the call and gave him a good reference. Should I report to HR that my boss asked me to basically sabotage another employee?
