The new principal does not like me very much

I'm a librarian and an elementary school and I'm very opinionated and I will do what I think is best for students and have argued my point with the new principal. I'm going to give a possible unpopular opinion in the education system. I hate AR testing. Let me explain why. I let students check out whatever book they want regardless of their lexile. I'm not going to tell a child "Sorry. You can't get the book with a blue sticker. That is higher than your reading level." Maybe their parents are going to read it to them. Who am I to say no? I've had boys in the 5th grade reading at an 8th grade level but want to read Diary of a Wimpy kid. Again, who am I to say "That book is too easy. You're not allowed to check it out. Our new principal said at her old school you could only check out books in your level. And that's what we should be doing here. I said it isn't my job to meet kids at their level. That's their teachers job. My job is to help them find books they live. Even if it's higher or lower than their reading level. I know some teachers on here may disagree with me but I can tell you I've heard time and time again that students who are forced to only read books with a yellow sticker, or blue sticker etc end up hating reading all together. I believe reading should be fun and that involves letting kids pick out what books they want. It's different if they need to pick out a book for an assignment. But a book just to bring home and read. I don't think we should be policing that. If it's too hard they may have someone at home who reads to them. Too easy they may just enjoy the book. Either way it's a book that they want. I've fought my principal on this because I am not restricting student to just their reading level. She's stopped fighting me on it but it's clear she's not my biggest fan.
