How to alleviate chest/throat infection?
I have a compulsory class at university tomorrow and I’m currently the sickest I have been in a long time. Does anyone have some home remedies I can try tonight/in the morning so I can at least try to show up to my class?
I tested negative for COVID, influenza and RSV, so the GP thinks it’s a bacterial infection but refused to put me on antibiotics until my swab results are back. I’m really not well, my throat is so sore and swollen that I can’t move my head around (literally feels like I’ve been punched in the throat, it’s even tender to touch my throat on my neck), I have a fever which barely goes down now with paracetamol. My vocal cords are so inflamed that nearly no noise comes out when I try to speak. The GP simply sent me off with codeine tablets for the pain, but even with that I can’t even cough through the pain to clear out my chest, or swallow food.
I’m painfully forcing myself to at least drink water, but now even one of my ears is beginning to absolutely kill me. I’ve been using throat spray with lidocaine in it but even that (which usually works wonders) doesn’t help whatsoever.
Unfortunately even with a medical certificate, if I don’t attend this class they don’t allow students to take part in our practical assessment or pass the unit. I’m studying the double bachelors degree in midwifery and nursing, tomorrow is one of our practical training classes, and I have 3 assessments this week, so any advice is so, so greatly appreciated
