Is this negging or him being a jerk?
Sorry if this is petty. Long story short he’s one of who are those die hard ski passionate ppl who need to have the top of the line gear snoody toods who’ve been skiing for years and view it as some sort of pissing contest. Me on the other hand, I am self taught and been doing it for 2 years, and at an intermediate level. Something I enjoy for fun when I have time, so like 2-4x a year? My passion, investment and focus is on my artwork. Anyways, my dad purchased me my own pair of skis last year as a surprise Xmas gift and I was so excited and am still very grateful to this day, and I should mention he doesn’t have much so I thought it was so sweet to do that, and sometimes don’t feel deserving. They are a basic but good line (Elan). Well, said friend felt the need to laugh and insult me saying I have poor quality and “not real” skis because they’re not like the $3k pair or center mounted ones like he has that can do all the tricks on the mountain. I disregarded his comment as I’m not a materialistic person. Well I posted a ski vid yesterday in my skis and he felt the need to reply by saying “lmao nice skis grandma”. I right away knew he was jabbing at me again for my skis. I said “are you okay?” And how my skis are perfectly fine. He then responded back saying I have a “gaper” ski set up. Gaper is a borderline derogatory slang toward skiers/snowboarders who are idiots, inexperienced, in the way, or mismatched gear ppl on the slopes. I told him that was hurtful to say. He then says “Lol I’m just giving you shit” like no dude, this is the 3rd time and I find it weird, hurtful and annoying you feel the need to go out of your way AGAIN to bring someone down over a pair of freakin skis? Grow up. I haven’t responded back, but I want to put him in his place. Anyways, would that be considered negging? Or him just being a prick? Like I don’t even want to hangout or ski with him now anymore after we agreed earlier to do as I know he’ll find a way to belittle me to feel some sort of superiority.
