Hey! I am 22 and been married for a little over a year. We’ve both recently been talking about kids and have talked about trying to have a baby. What are some basics to know about ovulation tests and stuff like that? My mom never taught me anything about periods or sex.

Since you are still young, I would suggest just have fun having Sex with no protection for atleast 6 months. Take prenatal/omega 3, and just relax.  There is so much you can do. Track periods, ovulation tests, etc etc but it brings some pressure and if it doesn’t work the first month, the pressure can easily build up. As someone who got pregnant with all my 3 pregnancies, all I did was take my prenatals with my first and just enjoy intimacy with my husband. We were doing it almost everyday even before starting to try for a baby so I didn’t have to time sex. With my second, it was very important that I get pregnant that month or we put it off for another 2 years as I go back to work so I tracked. Lo and behold my ovulation was late for the first time in my life by 2 days. I could feel the stress that tracking brought and it showed in my body too. It was unnecessary really since I hadn’t yet struggled with infertility and I believe such stress would be unnecessary for you too since you are still so young and just beginning to try. Well my third was conceived in contraceptives so no planning there, I was trying to avoid it. Even then, I went on my prenatals immediately and baby is fine. So it is ok if you don’t start prenatals 3 months before pregnancy. You could have a gyn appointment just to check health and get your questions answered but don’t over think it. Just do what you need to do and baby will come. It will save you more stress. Let this be a season you enjoy. If you have a very low sex drive and rarely have sex, then I suggest you track your cycle and find out when you ovulate, then start having sex 5 days before ovulation and 1 day after ovulation. That is your fertile window. All the best.

I felt SO UNEDUCATED when it came time for me to want kids. I will be different for my own. 
I had come off birth control some time before, tracked my periods on here which were always accurate. Accurate periods lead me to believe I’d ovulate accordingly, so I’d start having sex every other day during the “suggested” times on this calendar. I’d start a day or two early, and end a day or two later than it suggested. I took a prenatal vitamin prior and throughout pregnancy. If you want to track ovulation they make strips, and you can also get by cervical mucus coloring and texture as well as your body temp.
