What's an IUD like?

Question

Ladies with IUDs, what are they like? Do you use Minerva or copper?  Any side effects with the Minerva? Have they ever shifted? Thinking of getting one.

I know medicine has developed a lot since  the 80's. my mom had an IUD placed in her a couple months later she found out she was pregnant with me. I'm living proof!  But I know now its probably more advanced then back in the day

I had the mirena for about 3.5 years and loved it for the beginning. For the last 6 months I noticed myself getting emotional and not wanting to have sex. My partner and I were frustrated so we took it and I started to feel like myself again. It could have definitely been something going in my life or it could have just been time to remove. Overall I loved it and when I'm done having kids I'll most likely put it in again.

Love it! I have skyla (Marina's) little sister and it's awesome! I still ovulate which I like and no pills to remember. I got mine a few weeks ago so I'm having irregular bleeding, but it's worth it so far. I like the easiness of it. Also the insertion wasn't too fun but take a few advil and you'll be set. Just be ready to take it easy that day incase your cramping is bad. Also we haven't had any problems feeling it during sex really so that's nice. I worried about that.

Its the best there is. I use the paraguars which is the copper version. It was very very crampy when I first got it put in... I even went to the emergency room with labor like pains. They told me I was having early labor type pains from my natural period and the IUD. My flow has also gotten much much heavier... Using super plus tampons. I also still have severe cramping for at least one day of y period bad rnough to not want to move. However, I like it way better than aby of the hormonal options, so it is worth the pain. Also, no condoms!!!

I'm only 6 weeks in to copper and I couldn't be happier. Minimal cramping on insertion and during my cycle, also slightly heavier flow. I highly recommend it!

I have Mirena and have had it since August of last year. I havent had any trouble with it thus far. And it seems to work for me. (:

I'm on Paraguard which is the hormone free copper IUD and I LOVE it! I don't have to worry about missing a pill or shot. AND it work while I'm on my cycle!(not like the pill) I've had it for 2 years and so far so great(:
​I decided to get the 10-year one. I DONT PLAN ON EVER HAVING KIDS AGAIN!!(: I have only one and that's enough for me.
​Hormone free means you still get to have your monthly cycles which I would prefer because it's your body's way of cleaning itself(:

I had a Mirena IUD for five years and I thought it was fantastic, my period stopped all together for the entire time which was great. Towards the last five or months that I had it though I did start getting some symptoms that I felt were related (pelvic pain, nausea, fatigue) and when I had it taken out for about a week or two it was definitely a hormonal adjustment (like really badly, hormones were crazy, emotions were all over the place). That being said, I would recommend it as a great form of birth control, and wouldn't change having had it.
