Fiancé doesn’t want a joint bank account
My fiancé doesn’t want to have a joint checking account when we get married.
I don’t know how I feel about this. I grew up with a family that has joint bank accounts when married. And I actually work at a bank and see it all the time. Married couple join their finances.
I asked him why, and he said a few reasons.
He said that he is finally making a lot of money and just wants it to be his. He saw that his mom spent all of his dad’s money. And he said that he doesn’t want me to spend his money on makeup and target trips.
I told him that I think we should have a joint account that our pay checks go in to pay bills and stuff. And then have our own individual accounts still.
This is kind of a big issue for me. What do you guys think???
Also, we do live together. And we have separate accounts. We each pay different bills. Like he pays rent and the WiFi. And I pay our electric, gas and water. We both have car payments. But doing it this way kind of feels like a roommate instead of a partner.
