Do I report my clients therapist to her supervisor?
I'm a case manager and in school to be a therapist. I know I'm not an official one yet but I know enough to know what my clients therapist is doing is wrong. I've been working with this client for a while. He has a lot of trauma caused by his mom who physically, sexually, and emotionally abused him. She's dying and wants to see him and he told me his therapist keeps pushing him to go hear her out and go see her or else he will regret it and her pushing him to do that is causing him a lot of emotional distress.
I know I'm not done with school but we've learned that as therapists we aren't supposed to flat out tell our clients to do things like that. It's one thing to talk to them and lead them to an answer but it's unethical to flat out tell them to do that because if it backfires and they hurt themselves or something really bad happens we can be held liable by our supervisor.
I know his therapist. We obviously have to work together since we are both on his case and she's a very religious woman who believes we need to honor our parents and that children need to give their parents grace and have them in their life. Nothing wrong with her being religious but I think she's letting her personal biases come out in his therapy.
He's already had a suicide attempt and he's struggling with having to relive his trauma and his therapist trying to convince him to go see his mom is wrong and unethical. Especially less than a month after a suicide attempt.
