Sex to dating

So I haven’t had sex in about 3 years. I was on my healing journey and I reconnected with an old friend and we had sex. It was great not gonna lie. I thought he was gonna be a causal fuck buddy but we’ve talking almost everyday since December. We’ve been on a couple of dates and we’re getting to know each other. I enjoy his company but I don’t feel we have anything in common. I like him and I want to see where things go but I don’t know is it normal to date someone you don’t have common things with?
