Is this inappropriate for a married woman?

I (F) recently left a job 1 month ago that I had been at for 5 yrs. I  was an I.T trainer and while being there I developed a few work buddies , some men. All innocent never hung out outside of work unless we grabbed a quick lunch. The other day one of my old work buddies (M) messaged me "I miss you". I wrote back that I missed him too and asked a couple questions about work. Later that day I brought it up to my husband and he thinks that the I miss you messages are inappropriate between another man who is in a relationship of his own and me a married woman.  My husband doesnt want me to talk to him anymore. What do you all think?

If thats all he said in his initial reach-out text, I do think it's a bit inappropriate. If he said something like 'ugh the new person sucks, I miss you!' type of jesting that wouldve been fine, or something like 'hey hows the new job, we miss seeing you around the office' is also casual conversation and fine. But just saying 'I miss you' with no joke/context is a bit serious imo and bordering on inappropriate.

Inappropriate for sure. It’s not about you missing coworkers, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s about the communication. He literally sent you an “I miss you” text and you could’ve said “I miss you all or you guys too!”  You should’ve made it less personal between the two of you. I understand where your husband is coming from.

Yeah that’s a huge no for me. 
I wouldn’t have even replied as a married woman. 
He could have texted “hey, we all miss you at work. Hope your new job is going well” 
But he said “I miss you” and then you responded the same…. I literally cannot imagine telling any man other than my husband that I miss him lol feels too intimate but maybe it’s just me 
There’s a clear distinction between which one seems appropriate and which one is blurring the line.

I think it would’ve been better to include everyone instead of just him, like, “I miss you guys! How is everyone doing?”

I disagree with the other comments. If you’re coworkers and friendly, this isn’t abnormal simply based on sex. We need to stop acting like grown up cannot be friends with the opposite sex.

Seems harmless. Doesn’t sound inappropriate at all to me. You can miss people without it being sexual. Why do you think you aren’t allowed to miss people just because you’re in a relationship? It’s fine to have friends/ coworkers.

Just don't entertain the coworker. Married couples should have friends both are aware about and ok/friends with. If he doesn't feel ok with that interaction, it's good he brought it up to you. It's up to you to decide if you think your relationship or a former coworker whom you don't work with and will likely not see again. You'd be amazed at how many male coworkers have a crush on a woman, no matter of their or your relationship status.

My husband works in an office with mostly women, he’s been out on paternity leave for a few weeks. He’s got I miss you texts from a few of the ladies. They miss him. They don’t wanna fuck him. I don’t find it inappropriate. But I trust my husband so that helps.
