Breast pump covered by insurance?

How do you know if your insurance pays for a breast pump? Do you just call your insurance company?

I called my ins. Co. They told me I had coverage and gave me a list of in network providers.

I filled out the form on Aeroflow.com and they checked for me then mailed my pump directly to my door :)

My insurance company won't cover it, they said I would have to go through wic to get one. So I swallowed my pride and applied for wic, they won't give me a pump until I go back to work. "It's not a medical need" I feel like feeding my child is kind of a big deal lol but from what I've seen a lot of insurance companies do supply them. So give yours a call!

I asked my lactation consultant who was helping me right after my last baby's birth & she made all the necessary calls to insurance & got a prescription written so I could get one covered. Only a couple different models were covered though.

Call your insurance first!! Find out what you qualify for first THEN start looking into medical suppliers that offer that model. I started by calling the suppliers but several of them told me that I qualified for a much lower quality pump than a coworker got with the same insurance. So I called my insurance company and sure enough they were all underselling my benefits. I asked a supplier why they would do that and he told me it was bc they had a contract with medela to offer a certain pump that they get at a discounted rate so that's the only one they offer. My insurance covers any pump I want so I kept calling until I found a supplier that would give me that. It was a pain but in the end it was so worth it! If I had settled with the first supplier I called I would've ended up with the medela In Style starter kit but instead I got the medela In style advanced double pump metro bag. Good luck!

So easy! I asked my doctor to complete a prescription for the pump, then I called my insurance company and asked which medical supply companies would they cover. I called the first one of the list, faxed my script over and I got the pump in 2 days. They communicated with the insurance from there. Just be sure to specify which pump you want otherwise they will give you the most basic model.

Yep! I called my insurance and they covered it. Had it delivered to my house two days later. Pretty cool. Some companies also cover the refill bags too.
