High risk for Down syndrome?

Did anybody's doctor tell them they maybe at a risk of their baby coming out with Down syndrome or some other mental illness. I see a lot of women saying their at a high risk for it and I'm nervous.

There is no pre natal test for any mental illness. Down's syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality  (three copies of chromosone 21 instead of 2) , not a mental illness. The only way you can know for sure before the baby is born is to have amniocentesis or a cvs.

Even if you are, Downs Syndrome is not a horrible thing! Those sweet babies are a blessing.

My age said my risk was 1 in 267. Bloodwork and ultrasound said my risk is actually less than 1 in 5000. It brought me peace of mind, but if we'd gotten a higher risk, I don't know that I would have panicked yet. Risk doesn't guarantee a problem.

It's ALWAYS just a GUESS!!! You could be called 'high risk' for getting a Child with down syndrom just because you are 35 at age. Most time (98%) your Baby will be perfectly  healthy. I wouldn't do any of these tests. They only worries you - and doesn't have more reliability than a GUESS....

No, but the best way to find out your risk is to get the first trimester screening tests. It's an ultrasound and blood test. Totally non-invasive.

I chose to not be tested because it wouldn't matter to me id still love my son
