Experienced mamas - diaper bags?

Are diaper bags really essential? Or could I just get a back pack to throw my stuff in?

I've discovered after being a nanny and having a 4 year old that I would use backpacks more than anything! This time I'm getting a backpack diaper bag, just for the convinence of having the cooler pockets. Really any backpack works.

My sons 4 and we just found out we're pregnant. I needed our diaper bag. It had Everything. Being a first time mom you need everything to feel prepared. Being a second time mom. I'm still going to use a diaper bag because kids throw up and you need lots of clothes with you, they need diapers, they might have a rash, you need bottles or food to feed them while out, small toys if you are out for a while, on the go changing pad for restaurant bathrooms or even a friends house, etc. I love diaper bags. By the time our son was 2 I upgraded to a 31 bag and only needed half that stuff.

Just a bag of any sort will work I have a cute bag when we go on visits or run errands but we hike a lot and will put stuff in our hiking bag when my first was a little older I just threw a few things in my purse

I love the diaper back packs. It really depends on what you are carrying and how much .  I got me a kavu rope sling bag to be my quick bag hold an outfit a few diapers and wipes and it has a pocket for my phone and wallet.

Not at all, I choose a book bag as my diaper bag I love free hands, I'm comfortable and I won't drop my kid

I used a back pack. You can use whatever u want.. I think backpack are easier to carry around

We used a nice bike backpack for our diaper bag.   Best idea we've ever had

I used a shoulder bag for a while and then switched to a back pack and I prefer the back pack.
