In your opinion when is the best age(s) to introduce a child to money/budgeting?

Bonus comment question: Do you think introducing the "meaning of money" too early can harm a childhood in most situations?

My daughter is only 5 and saves up money for what she wants. Just this wkend she asked to go to build a bear workshop she said she had money $10. I told her it wasn't enough she needed at least $10 more for an outfit. She asked if she helped me clean I can help her pay. I agreed and gave her a list of chores which were pick up all the shoes and put them where they belong, get the dirty dishes from the table after dinner and clean her room. She did it all no complaint. The next morning she did her bed, helped me do my bed and fold laundry and put up her clothes. I was so proud that she did it on her own. So yesterday I took her and she was so proud to pay herself. She was so excited that she said she's going to help me even more the baby arrives 😊

We live in a world that revolves around money.. you have to spend money to buy things that you need to live therefor my children will know about money as soon as possible.

My 9 yr old has an account she doesn't know about that both sides of her family have contributed to every birthday,Xmas,Easter since her birth but I have recently implemented a new behaviour system as at 9 she's getting a bit sassy now! She gets a dollar at bedtime every nite for each day she is well behaved,thoughtful,cleans up without me telling her,is kind etc and if she is naughty (I do give her a couple chances) and I need to keep telling her off not only does she not get the dollar that night but she gets one taken away from her.So far it's working so well!! She counts her collection each week and is excited for when she has enough to spend she's already reading the junk mail and looking at prices of things 😊

Before they go to college for sure. My parents never gave us an allowance or money as gifts and didn't allow us to work... So when I got to college I had no clue. I didn't know reasonably how much things cost. I didn't know how to budget. I ruined my credit.

So yeah. Definitely before college. Probably sometime between 5-10. They should know how to count for starters and then later how to add and subtract.

My daughter is 2 and has a piggy bank and when it's full I will take her to the store so she can pick something. That's how we do it now and as we get older things will evolve from there. We live in a capitalist society and I think whether it's a good or a bad thing, showing how to use money and what money means is necessary. I also think that my child needs to know what money can buy and what money cannot buy. In other words that it's not the most important thing.

My son is 2.5 and understands saving his money (piggy bank). We also have a prize jar where he earns buttons for good behavior and when he fills up the jar he has the choice to get a small "prize" or receive a sticker instead. When he saves up 3 stickers he gets a BIG PRIZE. It is NEVER too early to teach kids budgeting and money skills.

Definitely as early as possible... reasoning is because I feel that kids minds absorb things a lot more at an early age. If you put that in their head, it'll stick with them.

I had a piggy bank when I was really little and I always had so much fun putting money into it's a very small child. My mom would give me a few pennies and bring my piggy down from the shelf and we'd count how many I put in. And then when it was full she'd take me to the bank to put it into my own savings account. I had fun doing it and it taught me that it could be fun to save your money. If only I could be as good at it now as I was then haha.
